In our first newsletter, I introduced myself to this wonderful community. As we dive into the Fall season, I'm excited to introduce you to our full PTA Board and share what's on tap for October! 

Our Murwood PTA Board is a group of parent and staff member volunteers dedicated to making our school community exceptional. As the weather cools down, the excitement is heating up! October is packed with fun and meaningful events designed to bring our Mustang community closer. Keep reading to see all we have coming your way.

We’re excited to invite you to an in-person PTA meeting on October 15th, 5:30-7pm in the Murwood Library. 

Join us for 30 minutes of socializing before our meeting begins at 6:00pm. This is a great chance to connect face-to-face with other Mustang caregivers, and share your thoughts. 

Special guests, Superintendent Marie Morgan and the Walnut Creek Police Department, will discuss key topics impacting Murwood. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in person and make a difference in our community. We can’t wait to see you there!

Join us, Friday, October 18th, for a fun and relaxing Moms* Night Out. Open to all moms and mother figures in the Murwood community! This is a wonderful opportunity to come together, build connections, and enjoy a casual evening out.

And for all our Dads* out there, we love to host community-building events throughout the year, including Dads* Night Out, and our ever-popular Parents' Night Out--the Auction for Education. For those of you interested in our father-figure only event, stay tuned. Plans are in the works for a similar gathering coming your way in November 2024 or January 2025!

We had a rich and insightful conversation during our recent Coffee Chat with the Principal, sparked by themes from Jonathan Haidt’s book, The Anxious Generation. The discussion centered around navigating parenting and supporting our children in today’s digital world.

One key takeaway was the importance of undistracted, 1:1 time talking with our kids. Simply talking and connecting helps us keep a pulse on how they’re doing and the challenges they may be facing at different stages of their lives. Building this connection now is crucial, and helps us maintain it as they grow older. 

Some great suggestions from the group: go on 1:1 walk-and-talks or do a hands-on activity like coloring together chatting. Why these activities, specifically? Talking while doing an activity together can help reduce any pressure a child may feel having the same conversation in a more formal setting with their trusted adult.

Join us for Murwood's biggest family event of the school year!

NEW this year, is our first ever costume exchange! We'll be accepting costumes from toddler to adult sizes. If you have costumes to donate, bring them in, and if you’re looking for a costume, come and shop! Any costumes left at the end of the event will be donated to those in need.

We are still looking for more volunteers to make this event a success. Whether you can assist with setup, run a game booth, or help with cleanup, there's a role for everyone. Raise your hand.
